In praying for my business for 2020, I asked the Lord to show me what He wanted. One day I was feeding my son lunch and the Holy Spirit impressed upon me to change my business name to Stacking Stones Photography

I started processing what it would mean to actually follow through in obedience. I had never considered changing the name of my business so it took a minute to wrap my brain around the idea.

The first time I heard of stacking stones was from a sermon I heard while I was in grad school. I don’t remember the details of who or where, but I do remember it sticking with me. I’ve thought about it often and any time I’m struggling, I’ve gone back to my “stones” and remembered all the things the Lord has done. After the Lord suggested the name change, I took time to study the scriptures and read all the commentary I could find.

If you’d like to read the scripture, head on over to Joshua 3 & 4 in the Bible. If you’d like my paraphrased version - keep reading.

In the Old Testament, Joshua and all of Israelites are trying to make it to the Promised Land. They have traveled far and have come to the banks of the Jordan River, which sounds kind of peaceful but scripture tells us it was actually a raging, flooded river that was literally impossible to cross.

The Lord speaks to Joshua, telling him to send the priest carrying the Ark of the Covenant (which holds the 10 commandments) first - and when they get to the edge of the banks, step into the water and stand there. Can you imagine what everyone must have been thinking?!

So in faith and obedience, everybody gets ready to cross. They followed the Lord’s instructions and sent the priests holding the Ark first.

As soon as their feet touched the water, the water stopped flowing.

Y’all, The Lord held back the raging waters from upstream and all the Isrealites were able to cross on dry land. (Is your mind NOT blown by this? How amazing is our God?)

Now to the stone stacking part. After they’d crossed, Joshua called over the 12 appointed men (each one as a representative from the 12 tribes of Israel) and he tells them to each grab a stone from the middle of the river and take it to dry land. He told them to stack the stones in remembrance of what the Lord had done for them. The stones were to serve as a memorial - so that when their children ask what the stones mean, they can tell them how the Lord held back the water so they could cross on dry land. So that their children would know the power of the Lord.

Now, to me, photographs are a tangible way to stack your stones. A way to celebrate the beautiful people in your life that you call family.  A way to remember the sweet blessings that the Lord has gifted you.

Friends, I’d be honored to help you stack your stones.
